Messages for loved ones and keeping in touch

We recognise the impact that a long stay in hospital can have on families and the importance of maintaining strong communication.  Our ward staff are keeping in touch with patients’ next of kin directly and our Voluntary Services team can help pass on personal messages from family and friends.

Our Strategy – Working Together, Improving Together

Our strategy sets out our vision, values, strategic aims and most importantly, how we will deliver against these ambitions for our patients, communities, and people in the future.

It is not just a document, it is for and about everyone at PHU, building on what we have achieved with a renewed focus on continuous improvement and the need to continue to work together and improve together to achieve our goals.

A full copy of the strategy can be downloaded here.

For more information, please visit our strategy webpage.

There are lots of opportunities for you to get involved with the Trust, from volunteering to attending our public meetings, our Annual General Meeting or our hospital open day which is held every year.

How We Are Organised

Last updated: 05 June 2023

We have five clinical divisions reporting directly into our Executive Team

The five divisions are:

  • Medicine and Urgent Care Division
  • Clinical Delivery Division
  • Networked Services Division
  • Surgical and Outpatients Division
  • Corporate Services Division

The divisional structure was introduced in 2018 alongside our Trust Strategy, "Working Together". The structure is designed to support the delivery of our strategy and ensure we provide the best possible care for our patients and the communities we serve

We are a clinically-led organisation, each division is led by a clinician as divisional director, with overall responsibility for their division. The divisional directors are supported by a leadership team including an operations director, a nursing/allied health professions director and business partners for finance and human resources.

Each leadership team is accountable for the quality, performance and financial sustainability of their division and responsible for working together across the other divisions to ensure our strategy is delivered and that we sustain further improvements for our patients.

The Trust Leadership Team, which includes both executive directors and divisional directors, ensures good governance across the organisation.

Leadership development

We have made significant investments in development opportunities to enable our staff to be the best they can be, helping to ensure our patients receive the right care from the best people. Our 90 most senior leaders have taken part in a bespoke development programme aligned to our three-year Culture Change Programme and underpinned by our Trust Strategy and values.. This programme of work is about how we develop a compassionate and inclusive leadership approach to support the delivery of our strategy. Further plans are underway to continue the development of all staff in leadership roles, in the years ahead.

We also offer a range of management and leadership skills development workshops and access to the NHS Leadership Academy’s programmes.
